This is a poetic response asking whether we really are getting to the root cause of the rot in these so-called “esteemed” artistic institutions.

I am addressing Canadians of any gender or ethnicity who sell out their integrity in exchange for a spot at the table. Watch for the term “victim capitalism” in “Outcome” (2026, dir. Jonah Hill).

The film “Outcome” is the latest in a series of black comedies I’ve been consuming lately interrogating the whole concept of victimhood as a commodity in the power dynamics we have today. Others include American Fiction (2023, dir. Cord Jefferson), Sinners (2025, dir. Ryan Coogler) and Send Help (2026, dir. Sam Raimi). Highly recommend all of these films.
